What a UCC record tells you
A UCC financing statement can identify a business associated with a secured transaction. It is a prospecting signal, not proof of a current funding request, a payoff, or contact permission. Filings can be amended, continued, or terminated; confirm the filing context and current business information before deciding whether outreach is appropriate.
What bank statements add
An application package with bank statements gives an authorized reviewer additional information about deposits, cash-flow patterns, and existing debits. Check the statement periods, whether all pages are included, and whether the account belongs to the applicant. Documents can be outdated or incomplete, so the presence of statements alone does not mean an application is verified or fundable.
Compare total processing effort
UCC-based outreach usually requires more work to establish current need and obtain an application. A statement-backed inquiry may reach review sooner, but still needs identity checks, permission verification, and underwriting. Neither lead type guarantees a conversion rate. Compare each cohort using valid-contact rates, completed reviews, funded outcomes, and total acquisition cost.
Choose for your team and controls
A prospecting team with a disciplined qualification process may use filing-based records. A smaller review team may prefer a lower volume of more complete inquiries. Ask about record age, exclusivity, document collection, delivery, and replacement terms before ordering. Restrict access to financial documents and use secure storage rather than ordinary email attachments.
